First Photographs Salmon River Falls, Orwell, NY

Image
Bet you never thought I would get to this. Well I am posting the first of many photographs I have made with my father-in-law's digital camera. I really didn't think I would get anything with a digital camera. This first photograph was manipulated in GIMP on Ubuntu hardy. I didn't do much to it, just converted it to gray scale because I thought it lent it self to the look of Panalure, but it doesn't have the grain structure of Panalure. I still have a bunch of photographs to work on, so I will be posting them soon. I will also post the full color version of this photograph later as well. It was taken at Salmon River Falls, in Orwell, NY. I have to say I am impressed enough with the quality that I may actually buy a digital camera, but I won't be throwing away film yet, as it is the only true way to get real black and white (silver) images, but for now I don't have a darkroom anyways, so GIMP has to be my darkroom. This was taken on a Kodak EasyShare CX75...
I've been at this for to long, now. It ceases to amaze me that nothing comes from all the writing, as it is mostly posturing. How have I gotten to this point? Where do I go from here? What difference does it make?

Libraries are Deposits of Learning

Libraries are Deposits of Learning It really is the end of an era for the American Library System.  That today they are outdated is an understatement.  To make them useful in the future, they will need to significantly consider their purpose.  The American Library system lacks the virtual component.  Sure most of them have a computer of two tht can surf the web, but it is not true that the people can surf the library.  This is the biggest problem I see at this time.  Access to the deposits within the library from the web.  As it is if I want to go to the Library and take out a book to read, I do not have to pay for that book, unless I do not return it in time, or lose it, so barring those two issues, it is time we devised a way to have that access from the digital page.  There is a need for time limited documents.  For a document that will cease to be of use after a certian time, if the user does not access the library system and obtain addit...

China sweats, we might want to worry a little

Market Scan China Sweats U.S. Debt Securities, Pressuring Prices Melinda Peer, 03.13.09, 10:25 AM EDT Apprehension from Beijing regarding its the security of its massive U.S. assets causes prices on Treasuries to fall. If they are concerned, maybe we should be concerned. This is a big O can of WTF that is yet to be fully opened. I can at this time only say, wow, where did it all go, where did it go?

Barnes & Noble Acquires Fictionwise (MediaBistro Galleycat)

Barnes & Noble Acquires Fictionwise From: MediaBistro Galleycat Bookseller Barnes & Noble announced that it has purchased the e-book retailer Fictionwise for $15.7 million in cash today. Awesome, huh, do they really think this will help them. Well anyways, hope they do well with it, I like B&N as far as I like any major in the book business. They are not a nice dusty dimly lit book nook with an old man with round rimmed glasses, but not to bad either, all things considered. I don't know much about Fictionwise, but when I figure them out, I will report more.

From the Places not to Go Files ed.1

Danzer's German American Restaurant, 152 Ainsley Drive, Syracuse, NY. If you check out their site you will read this little bit... " Danzer's German & American Restaurant was established in 1946 and takes pride in having served homecooked German meals to Central New Yorkers for over five decades. Ludwig Danzer's tradition is still being carried out today with hearty portions of homemade German specialties, tall drafts of imported beers and ales, and those giant deli sandwiches that have made Danzer's famous." Unfortunately you can't believe it. My wife Arleta and our good friend Mary Petersen went there last night, because we have gone there often in the past, and because it is one of the few German fare restaurants in Syracuse. However the experience was more than a little disappointing. First the wait for a table was long enough, but even after that there was a period of several minutes before we even got water or acknowledgment from the wait sta...

Investments that don't suck

Right now I would not invest in luxury goods. With the grain futures low, and beef and pork prices continuing to fall, the best investments are in the everyday items. Regular consumer goods that everyone needs. In a down economy it is best to invest in stable companies with long track records that deal in popular consumer product groups. So what I am saying here is invest in toilet paper and everyday clothes (jeans, casual clothing, etc.). Food is always good, but who is doing better, and who is going to survive the shakeout? I can't say for sure now, but one thing that remains at least for now, soda, chips and beer are relatively safe bets at least in the short term. Although I am not an advocate of shorting the market, in such conditions it sometimes is necessary to ensure that you can move with the times. What I suggest is not shorting the market, but keeping in the market, while at the same time shorting some stocks, trading some for others as the market tries to re-sta...

Economic Drops and such features

This is interesting, but I need to do more research. With this I have noted the drop in the Dow, which does not surprise me in the slightest. There is much more to come.

From the Alex Jones Prison Planet file Finance

http://www.prisonplanet.com/aig-reports-record-loss-as-us-rescues-insurer-again.html This article requires further investigation, but it does indicate what I have been investigating on the movement of the capital from the treasury into foreign hands. I am still looking into this and will post additional information as I discover further details. However, it should be noted that as we continue to approve of supporting these financiers because they are to important to let fail, we must remember that we have only ourselves to blame when they have taken all our money and are laughing at us as we suffer in debt we can never repay.

Done to Ourselves (facebook repost)

Upon reading several post, and with current knowledge of understanding, it is not surprising to me that which is presented here. However it is only half of the story, if even that much. First do not blame the governments or other entities as they were not the ones that allowed this to happen, we the people allowed it to happen. We cried out for this, and gave the people with whom we entrusted the ability and writ to do so. That and we spoke with our dollars. We continued to purchase goods at Walmarts and their ilk sending our dollars to these countries. We continued to show with our purchasing dollars and our willingness to be overtly subdued by media, that we wanted this. We are the cause of our own misfortune. Do not blame the opportunist for taking advantage of the opportunity we afforded them. The fact is this was done before any of us were alive. These deals you talk about are only the overt movements of what was covert long ago before we even were aware of life, period. ...

Time will Never Tell

I shall sit here in this liquid room Surrounded by my memories Shrouded in a darkness of knowledge From whence it came I can not guess And I will surpress my desire to live And I will deny myself of happiness And I will consume my thoughts And I will exist, but that is all I will allow that which should be To come from the blindness I see And if they are as such let it be As who am I, I still question thee I will sleep in this summer sky No longer a product of the eye But what I chose not to see Will then be mine and endlessly Nothing I will hold Nothing do I need Nothing is all Nothing will become me At some time continuum They will ask where, why, and how And I will refrain from answering Given they knew to much then as well

Forever at a Loss

I am forever at a loss at the ignorance of others, and their complete inability to observe all but their prescribed doctrine. The point at which I am thinking, and wondering does anyone think at all, and I am reminded that perhaps they do think, but in limited view, and there is nothing I am going to do about it. I sometimes question my own existence, for it's purpose, as it would seem that most likely I was not "put here" to help others see, then what other purpose could I serve in. Any such capacity as I have availed myself of seems pale in comparison, and in truth I feel very inadequate to perform in a capacity that would seem less than desirable. Given this and that I obviously suffer from complexes of the mind, provided that I seem to have to complex a mind, leaves me with little option. I can't seem to understand how people can't understand the simplest of concepts, provided they understand language at all, and yet it does seem that more often than not ...

Another comment From Mike's Blog

This is a comment I made on Mike's Blog on MySpace, in response to a comment by another commenter . I hate to be the barer of such, but you assumption that I assumed is incorrect, in that I based my "assumptions" from your misunderstanding, which is not uncommon, but actually the precise education achieved through years of public education. That you believe that the Constitution is a document that gives us freedom from the obligation to the British Crown, you therefore do not understand the language of the Constitution. The belief that General George Washington was fighting for our freedom is a gross misconception. The Continental United States of America were fighting for representation not independence in the sense that we are made to believe. That you as well do not know me, as I do not know you, I was responding directly to your words, as you provided, and given that you continue with your belief indicates that you are yet to understand that I am not an advocate ...

So Far So Noir

So far they have killed several people but nothing seems to come of it. Be on the look out for further post on Noir. I am writing a new blog, but you won't be able to see it, so who cares.

Comment to You all, no reference at all

I was not going to directly reply to this, but you give me no choice. Now first as Mike already knows me, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. Second, I do not believe you understand what the USA or the Constitution is. First the Constitution was a charter made by the "founding fathers" between the colonies of the new British Corporation (see James Town), and the British Crown. With the exception of the preamble which is what most people are familiar with, the rest of the document has no baring on the people of the colonies, but on how business with the new corporation will be conducted. I think you are confusing the Constitution with the Bill of Rights, which was mostly penned by John Hancock, designed to give the citizens of the new corporation some protection from the power of the corporation (sort of like a trade union agreement). Furthermore, it is to late to do anything about the situation you and Mike are talking about, we were sold out long before any of us...

On Google Books: Access

On Google Books: Access I believe that I as the user should be able to set the access that I need for any particular value of books.  In a library I do not get charged for a book unless I do not return it.  In a situation such as the electronic library it would be difficult to impose such restrictions, and still offer the full text as I believe that should be available to the user, if they so desire it.  Full text should never be the default, although providing the user with the option to make it their particular setting would also be useful.  However the details of such a program by which one should have to pay some fee for access, as Google no doubt should have to pay to host such access, although to be perfectly honest, I do not put stock in the publishing industry, who nearly always takes more than they are worth, providing writers with the least they can negotiate, and although I do not begrudge them the ability to negotiate, it is my hope that electronic publis...

Economic Recovery and other High Wire Acts

A sane individual may state that all this talk of economic recovery, and the associated government policies being put through congress is a positive movement. I have read a lot about them lately, especially the white house blog , and to me it is scary. I am concerned that to much to fast is being done, but a lot needs to be done in a hurry to stem the tide. These programs put forth, the recovery act, the mortgage act, the banking act, all are probably necessary, but they are hard to swallow. It is the speed at which these programs are being accepted that is kind of scaring me. That and the fact that there seems to be a lot of transparency, but I am always concerned when they say to much, because it always make me wonder what are they hiding behind the smoke screens. The second point is how everything seems to be working for this President. The first lady is campaigning for him, the vice president is working on projects, everything seems to be working all to well, and that concern...
